NCETM COVID SUPPORT FOR SCHOOLS
Materials to support teachers and schools planning and delivering maths teaching in school and remotely at both primary and secondary level are available from the NCETM. All are accessible from the dedicated Covid support page on the NCETM website.
For primary schools and teachers, the 180 primary video lessons produced during the first lockdown are still available. Each lesson has an accompanying teacher guide, and PowerPoint slides of the lesson for teachers to adapt themselves.
There are also resources linked to the DfE guidance published in July 2020. These include ready-to-use training materials, a short introductory video, and a suite of 79 PowerPoints focusing on the ready-to-progress criteria found in the DfE guidance. Additional training materials addressing the transition between Year 6 and Year 7 are also particularly relevant when pupils in Year 6 have had their maths learning disrupted.

2018-19 CHINA-ENGLAND EXCHANGE
Nicol Winfield from Wyndham Primary Academy and Rebecca Vodden-Page from Barrow Hill Primary Academy visited Shanghai this year to take part in our fourth England-China exchange. Wyndham Primary Academy hosted the return visit for two teachers in January 2019. Once again we were lucky enough to host 2 fantastic showcase events giving other schools the opportunity to see the Shanghai teachers in action, delivering a year 2 and a year 4 lesson.
Thank you so much to Wyndham Primary Academy staff for accommodating this and the fabulous Wyndham pupils who were complete stars hosting our visitors, directing visiting teachers to the showcase and participating in the lessons. Amazing – thank you and well done to all!
We are delighted to be able to share the link to the Shanghai exchange Google Drive folder here. It is comprised of the lesson studies written by specialists whilst in Shanghai and the videos, PPTs and lesson plans from the Chinese teachers return visit to Wyndham Primary Academy. The folder is sorted into the different areas of the curriculum and each area is split into year-group-specific folders. Please be aware that this is work in progress, we hope that you find this resource useful.
2017-18 CHINA-ENGLAND EXCHANGE
We were delighted to take part in our third England-China exchange this year! Two of our primary mastery specialists – Kath Lee from Fairfield Primary Academy and Alison Johnson from Dale Community Primary School spent time in Shanghai visiting schools in September 2017. Fairfield Primary Academy hosted the return visit and we were very excited to welcome the 2 teachers to England in November 2017. We held two open events where we showcased teaching and provided opportunities for post-lesson Q and A. Our showcase events were full to capacity with teachers from all over the region coming along to observe the year 3 and year 6 lessons. These opportunities to see the Shanghai approach to Teaching for Mastery in action were extremely well received and have inspired many.
A huge thank you must go to Fairfield Primary Academy staff and of course the wonderful Fairfield children who were all fantastic hosts. In particular those children who took part in the showcase lessons were absolutely amazing and not in the least bit daunted by the 100 observers! Thank you to all involved.

MASTERY OF MATHEMATICS
Mastery of mathematics is something that we want pupils – all pupils – to acquire, or rather to continue acquiring throughout their school lives, and beyond. Understanding of teaching for mastery is well advanced in a large number of primary schools. The NCETM has been integral in the development of the teaching for mastery approach, and their website has a suite of resources aimed at deepening understanding and supporting implementation, available here.
